On Wednesday, industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo announced via X that a MacBook Pro featuring an OLED touchscreen is projected to begin mass production in late 2026. This claim was corroborated by Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, who noted that he had originally reported on the potential of a touchscreen MacBook Pro back in 2023. Gurman confirmed that the timeline provided by Kuo is indeed accurate, although the expected launch date has slipped from late 2025 to sometime between late 2026 and early 2027.
Historically, Apple has maintained a clear separation between its iPad and MacBook lineups, and it is unlikely to fully merge them. However, Gurman reports a decline in iPad sales and a growing customer demand for touch-enabled devices in the laptop segment. This expectation has been fueled by the increasing prevalence of touchscreens in Windows laptops. Consequently, Apple is feeling the need to align its product offerings more closely.
