Google has commenced the phased launch of its Ask Gemini AI assistant for Google Meet, though it will be accessible only to a limited group of “select Google Workspace customers” at the outset. The AI assistant is designed to assist participants by answering inquiries using real-time captions generated during the call, along with documents from Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides that users are permitted to view, as well as information from public websites. It can summarize remarks from specific attendees, pinpoint key decisions and action items, and generate summaries for those who join meetings late, provided that the Take Notes for Me feature is activated by the host.

Responses generated by Ask Gemini remain confidential to each participant, and meeting data such as captions will not be retained once the Google Meet session concludes. Participants will be notified when Ask Gemini is active during a meeting. While the feature is enabled by default, hosts retain the option to disable it at any time, and administrators can configure settings to start meetings without it.

Currently, Ask Gemini is available exclusively on desktop and is functional only during English-language meetings. Google indicates that support for additional languages is forthcoming. The rollout will prioritize Google Workspace Enterprise Plus, Enterprise (Standard), Business Plus, and Business Standard customers over the next few weeks. In the first quarter of 2026, the feature is expected to be expanded to include Workspace Business Starter, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus users following a collection of critical user feedback aimed at enhancing the tool.

Users are advised to exercise caution, as Google has remarked that “Gemini in Workspace can make mistakes, including errors about individuals, so it is recommended to meticulously review its outputs.” While the assistant may prove useful for catching up on missed portions of calls, it may be beneficial to personally revisit those segments after the meeting concludes.
