Grammarly has announced the introduction of new AI tools designed to assist users with a variety of writing challenges. The offerings span a range of needs, including tools for educators focused on identifying plagiarism and AI-generated content, as well as resources for students to evaluate reader responses to their essays, receive citation assistance, and even preview their expected grades. These specialized AI agents will be accessible within Grammarly’s newly developed “AI-native writing surface,” referred to as docs, at no additional charge for both free and Pro subscribers.

Jenny Maxwell, the Head of Grammarly for Education, emphasized the need for AI tools that enhance student capabilities without compromising their learning process. “Grammarly’s new agents fill this gap, acting as real partners that guide students to produce better work while ensuring they develop real skills that will serve them throughout their careers. By teaching students how to work effectively with AI now, we’re preparing them for a workplace where AI literacy will be essential,” she stated.

Among the standout features is the AI grader agent, which offers feedback based on course specifics and public information about instructors. This tool provides personalized writing advice and predicts the potential grade a student might receive, thus assisting in refining submissions before they are finalized.

Other agents include a reader reactions tool that anticipates reader queries following an essay, a proofreader providing inline suggestions for improvements, and a paraphrase agent that refines text for different tones and audiences. For citation needs, Grammarly has introduced a citation finder that automatically formats citations and an expert review agent that delivers focused feedback on specific topics.

In addition to these resources aimed at students, two tools are designed to assist educators in evaluating written work. Grammarly’s plagiarism detection agent scans a wide array of databases, academic papers, and online content to identify similarities with student submissions. Furthermore, an AI detection tool assesses whether text has likely been produced by a person or generated by AI.

Initially, the AI and plagiarism detection features will only be available for Grammarly Pro users. The company has indicated that all newly announced AI tools will be extended to Enterprise and Education users later this year, along with additional tools set to be revealed in future updates.
