The Gemini Live application is now being integrated with various first-party Google applications, enabling a real-time two-way voice feature that connects to Google Calendar, Maps, and Tasks for specific functionalities. Initially unveiled during the Google I/O event in May, this feature is now making its way to a broader user base. It is accessible to all, including both paid subscribers and free-tier users of the AI chatbot.
Gemini Live Can Now Make Calendar Entries
Back in May, there were indications of this feature through snippets of code discovered within the Google app, suggesting ongoing development. A report from 9to5Google indicated that a limited number of users began experiencing this feature in June, while the majority had yet to receive access. Currently, it appears that the comprehensive rollout of Gemini Live’s integration with Google’s Calendar, Maps, and Tasks is underway for all users.
Gemini Live connecting to Google Maps to answer a query
Members of the Gadgets 360 team have successfully tested the feature, finding it operates smoothly. When users pose a question to Gemini Live that can leverage one of these applications, the AI chatbot seamlessly connects with the relevant app.
Users also have the option to initiate the connection by directing Gemini Live to utilize a specific app. In testing, when given the command to locate a route via Google Maps, the chatbot promptly linked to the map application. An icon indicating the active connection appears at the bottom of the screen whenever this occurs.
After concluding a session, users can see a small notification within the app displaying a summary of the requested information. By clicking it, they can access the associated app to view the created Calendar entry, new Tasks, or the route details in Maps. This feature is available on both Android and iOS devices.
Additionally, last month, Google unveiled a real-time captions functionality in Gemini Live, allowing users to read responses while the chatbot verbally communicates. This captioning feature activates automatically when the device volume is low or muted.
