Lenskart is in the process of developing a new set of smart glasses, as announced by co-founder and CEO Peyush Bansal during the Snapdragon for India XR Day event in New Delhi on Monday. While detailed specifications remain undisclosed, it has been confirmed that these upcoming smart glasses will feature chipsets from Snapdragon. This latest innovation marks the company’s second foray into the smart glasses market, following the launch of the Lenskart Phonic in February of this year.
Lenskart Smart Glasses
The announcement regarding the smart glasses came during a candid discussion between Bansal and Savi Soin, Senior Vice President and President of Qualcomm India. Bansal highlighted the company’s ongoing advancements in eyewear technology and indicated that Lenskart is collaborating with Qualcomm on this new smart glasses project.
This collaboration suggests that the new wearable device will incorporate a Snapdragon chipset. However, it is still unclear whether the product will focus on augmented reality (AR) capabilities or if it will resemble more straightforward artificial intelligence (AI) smart glasses, similar to the Ray-Ban Meta.
If Lenskart opts to provide an augmented reality experience, the smart glasses might utilize the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 system-on-chip (SoC), which is compatible with both AR and AI glasses that may or may not include screens. Alternatively, for a premium AR experience, the glasses could be outfitted with the latest Snapdragon AR2 Gen 1 chipset.
Conversely, if the new offering is aimed at being a basic set of AI glasses, it might feature the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chip.
This endeavor represents Lenskart’s second venture into the smart glasses space. The previously introduced Lenskart Phonic, available for Rs. 4,000, allows users to make calls, enjoy music, and interact with an AI voice assistant. The device is designed with built-in speakers located at the temples, delivering up to seven hours of audio playback on a single charge. The Phonic also supports multi-tasking and provides a seamless connected experience for users on the move.
