Google has begun the rollout of its AI-driven virtual try-on shopping feature to consumers in the United States. Initially revealed during the company’s Google I/O event in May, this innovative tool is part of Google’s Shopping Graph and can be accessed through AI Mode in Search, Google Shopping, and product listings in Google Images. The feature enables users to virtually test a wide variety of outfits with just a few simple steps. In addition, Google has enhanced its price tracking capabilities.

Google Introduces Virtual Outfit Try-On Feature

In a recent blog post, Google announced the expansion of its virtual try-on feature across the US. The company claims users will have access to “billions of apparel items” within its Shopping Graph. This functionality will be incorporated into AI Mode, Google Shopping, and search results on Google Images.

Users for whom the feature is available can visit Google Shopping and select any product listing. For those using AI Mode and Google Images, a search for a specific style or outfit is required before selecting an item from the results. Once the feature is activated, users will notice a new “try it on” icon. By clicking on it, they can upload a full-length photo of themselves. Google will then utilize AI technology to simulate how the chosen outfit would appear on the user’s image.

The virtual try-on feature also provides the ability to browse past outfits tried on, save favorites, and share selections with friends. It operates through a specially designed fashion-based image generation model that comprehends how fabric behaves when it interacts with various body types.

In addition to the virtual try-on feature, Google is improving its price tracking system, which now includes a new alert mechanism. The update, which is also being implemented in the US, allows users to set specific alerts based on size and color preferences for a product, along with their desired price point. This means notifications will only be triggered for the specified size, avoiding alerts for unrelated options.

Furthermore, Google is developing a product discovery feature that will allow users to request style recommendations or specific outfits for various occasions while in AI Mode. The chatbot function will search for relevant products across the Shopping Graph and present listings that match the user’s preferences using proprietary vision matching technology. This new feature is expected to be available to US users later this year.
