Google has rolled out a Canary build of Android for developers, which includes a feature called Gemini Space. Data sourced from a recent report indicates that, while the feature is currently in a testing phase exclusively for developers, details regarding its functionalities and user interface have emerged. Gemini Space is designed to enhance Google’s existing ‘At a Glance’ feature found on Pixel devices. Users can expect to see a variety of information, such as sports scores, birthday reminders, finance updates, and Daily Hub cards, displayed on their lock screen, home screen, and always-on display (AOD).
Gemini Space said to compete with Samsung’s Now Bar
Experts from Android Authority successfully activated Gemini Space on a Google Pixel 9 using the latest Android Canary build. This new feature aims to provide users with birthday notifications, sports scores, financial data, and Daily Hub cards. However, it should be noted that currently, the finance and Daily Hub cards are not operational. Furthermore, Gemini Space will integrate its displays onto the lock screen, home screen, and AOD of Pixel smartphones.
The report reveals that when users enable the large clock widget on their Pixel devices, Gemini Space overlays the clock; conversely, with the small clock widget, it appears underneath. The cards may be swipeable, similar to the functionality offered by the At a Glance feature, showing one of the four cards at a time. On the always-on display, the arrangement of the cards will vary depending on the widget size. A large clock will allow Gemini Space to appear on top, while a small clock will result in the cards being displayed beneath the clock and the weather widget. It is important to highlight that Google has yet to formally announce Gemini Space.
Gemini Space is expected to rival Samsung’s Now Bar and Now Brief features, which integrate into the One UI 7 interface. The Now Bar is a floating tool that allows users to manage music playback and view live notifications, whereas Now Brief provides a tailored summary of upcoming plans.
In addition, Google has been developing a variety of features that may debut on Android in the future. It was recently reported that the company is working on a chat search feature within Gemini for Android. This innovative tool would enable users to conduct searches of past conversations by entering specific keywords into a proposed search bar.
