Google has initiated the transition from its Google Assistant to Gemini on Wear OS devices, following its announcement months ago regarding the rollout of support for its new AI assistant in smartwatches. The update comes shortly after the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 series, where Google revealed that Gemini will soon be accessible on smartwatches from multiple brands that are equipped with the latest versions of the Wear OS operating system. Wearables utilizing Wear OS 6 will also receive Gemini integration alongside built-in applications.
Gemini Integration Set for Wear OS 6 Smartwatches
In a recent blog post, Google confirmed that Pixel smartwatches will soon gain access to the Gemini AI assistant. Additionally, devices from brands such as OnePlus, Oppo, Samsung, and Xiaomi, which are running the latest versions of Wear OS, will also see the transition to Gemini, as it replaces the Google Assistant over the upcoming weeks.

Once Gemini is available on Wear OS smartwatches, users will be able to utilize natural language commands for various tasks, including checking the weather or conducting web searches. The assistant will also seamlessly integrate with Google’s services, enabling it to search through Gmail or access Calendar events for relevant information.
Google emphasizes that Gemini will be adept at managing more intricate commands on Wear OS without needing to unlock the user’s smartphone. This functionality includes creating music playlists, summarizing recent email correspondence, and directing users to locations by referencing scheduled appointments found in Google Calendar.
Contextual attributes will also enhance the user experience on Wear OS smartwatches, allowing Gemini to help users remember parking locations or the whereabouts of stored items. Furthermore, the AI assistant will provide reminders for upcoming tasks when users depart from specific places, such as their workplace.
To utilize Gemini on your smartwatch, it is essential to have a device operating on Wear OS 4 or later, according to Google. Consequently, many older models introduced in recent years should be compatible. Moreover, if a smartwatch qualifies for an update to Wear OS 6, it will also support built-in applications from the manufacturer.
