On Monday, xAI launched its latest artificial intelligence model, Grok 4. The announcement was made by company founder Elon Musk and his team during a live stream on X, previously known as Twitter. xAI asserts that Grok 4, a large language model (LLM), features enhanced reasoning capabilities and superior performance across various academic fields. Accompanying Grok 4 is Grok Heavy, a multi-agent system designed to tackle complex problems while producing higher quality results. In addition, xAI unveiled a new premium AI subscription, touted as the costliest to date.
Grok 4 and SuperGrok Heavy Subscription Announced
During the 48-minute live stream hosted on X, Musk and xAI developers discussed key features of the Grok 4 model. A standout aspect highlighted was its depth of academic knowledge. Musk remarked, “Grok 4 is better than a PhD level in every subject, no exception.”

The xAI team also presented Grok 4’s performance on various benchmarks, notably the Humanity’s Last Exam, a set of 2,500 questions formulated to evaluate AI systems across a broad spectrum of subjects. According to xAI, Grok 4 achieved a score of 25.4 percent, surpassing competing models such as Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro (21.6 percent) and OpenAI’s o3-high (21 percent).
Musk further indicated that when utilizing tools, Grok Heavy achieved an impressive 44.4 percent on the same benchmark, outpacing OpenAI’s o3 with Deep Research, which scored 26 percent, and Gemini 2.5 Pro with tools, scoring 26.9 percent.
Details on the Grok Heavy system remain limited, though it was described as a collaborative environment where multiple specialized agents can work together to explore different solutions to specific problems, ultimately identifying the most effective approach. This concept bears resemblance to the open-source algorithm introduced by Sakana AI earlier this month.
Lastly, Musk and his team revealed the SuperGrok Heavy subscription, the priciest consumer-focused AI service to date, priced at $300 (approximately Rs. 25,700) per month. Targeted at avid users of Grok, this subscription offers elevated rate limits and early access to new features, including the Grok Heavy system.
