The much-anticipated post-launch update for Spider-Man 2 has been postponed until early 2024. Developer Insomniac Games announced via Twitter that additional time is needed to refine the update and ensure its quality. Initially, the update was slated to introduce a New Game+ mode, allowing players to revisit the game’s narrative while maintaining all unlocked abilities and equipment. However, based on player feedback, the team will also include a mission replay feature, enabling gamers to experience some of the most visually striking boss encounters and side missions.
“We understand that players are looking forward to features like New Game+ and Audio Descriptions, among other enhancements,” stated the tweet. “Our team has been diligently working on these features, but we need additional time for testing to meet our quality standards.” The update will also introduce a day-night cycle option, allowing players to customize the atmosphere during their web-swinging adventures. Additionally, players will gain the ability to customize the colors of their symbiote powers, which are currently black by default. When using alternative costumes, the symbiote Peter Parker’s webbing will maintain its white color. The anticipated update aims to allow players further creative freedom in their gameplay experience. Insomniac Games is expected to reveal more details about the update in the near future.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Review
Earlier this week, Insomniac faced a cybersecurity incident when it was targeted by a ransomware group. This group, known as Rhysida, is reportedly looking to auction off the stolen data, demanding a starting price of $2 million or 50 bitcoins. Publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) confirmed the breach and is currently conducting an investigation, reassuring that other divisions remain unaffected. Rhysida has released several Insomniac employees’ emails and documents as proof, along with what appears to be images of the upcoming Wolverine game. The group has set a self-imposed deadline of seven days, threatening to leak the data publicly if their payment demands are not met. Such cyberattacks on video game companies have been increasing, with a notable incident involving Rockstar Games last year that resulted in the leak of numerous Grand Theft Auto VI development clips.
Insomniac’s Marvel games, Spider-Man and Wolverine, exist within the shared universe of Earth-1048, raising the possibility of a crossover featuring either character. As of now, there is no confirmed release date for the Wolverine game. However, the conclusion of Spider-Man 2 strongly hints at a potential sequel or expansion. Spider-Man 2 received seven nominations at The Game Awards 2023, including Game of the Year, but did not secure any wins.
Spider-Man 2 is currently available exclusively on the PS5.
