Zoom has introduced a new standalone application designed specifically for Meta Quest headsets. This application enables users to host or participate in virtual reality meetings, represented by their Meta Avatar.

While Zoom debuted an initial app for the Quest in 2023, it was exclusively accessible through the Meta Horizon Workspaces app and limited to users with a Zoom subscription for hosting meetings. The newly released standalone app, however, accommodates both free and paid Zoom licenses, as detailed on Meta’s website. It is compatible with several headset models, including the Meta Quest 3, Quest 3S, Quest Pro, and Quest 2.

In recent months, Zoom has advanced its efforts to incorporate AI avatars into meetings, representing users even when they cannot attend. The video conferencing platform previously allowed Vision Pro users to join meetings with their personalized avatars and later unveiled its own AI avatars for sending brief messages to colleagues.

Participants using Zoom on the Quest can view others in the meeting, regardless of whether attendees are using desktop, mobile, or web applications. Additionally, Meta has noted that users can enter meetings utilizing passthrough mode, which allows for an interaction with one’s actual environment while utilizing the Meta Quest 3, Quest 3S, and Quest Pro headsets.
