WhatsApp, the instant messaging service owned by Meta, continues to enhance its platform with new features aimed at improving user engagement. Following reports of a redesigned user interface for the Android app, the platform is now set to introduce a feature that will facilitate saving contact information. This function has been spotted in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android and may soon be available in the stable release.
A recent report from WABetaInfo, a tracker for WhatsApp’s beta versions, reveals that the platform is in the process of testing a feature that allows users to save contact details directly from the app. According to the report, users will encounter a new interface upon selecting the New Contact option, resembling the layout found in Google’s Contacts application.
Alongside the usual name and phone number, the new feature will enable users to input additional information such as birthdays and email addresses. Once filled out, users will have the option to save the contact either locally on their device or to their linked Google account. This capability aims to streamline the contact saving process without the need to switch to the Contacts app.
The beta versions of WhatsApp for Android that are reportedly testing this feature include 2.23.8.2, 2.23.8.4, 2.23.8.5, and 2.23.8.6. Notably, this feature has already been implemented in the iOS version, making the Android version the last to incorporate it.
In addition, WhatsApp for Android is working on a revamped navigation bar interface that mirrors the iOS version. Historically, the navigation bar has been positioned at the top on Android devices, but the new design aims to align with the bottom placement seen in iOS. Users with beta version 2.23.8.4 should be able to view these updates.
