Helldivers 2, the cooperative shooting game from Sony, is set to make its debut on Xbox Series S/X next month. Launched initially on PS5 and PC in 2024, this live service title will be available on Xbox starting August 26, and pre-orders are now open on the Xbox Store. Significantly, Helldivers 2 will mark the first PlayStation-published game to reach the Xbox platform, amid a trend where Microsoft has been releasing some of its titles on PS5.
Helldivers 2 Scheduled for Xbox Release
Arrowhead Game Studios, the developer behind the game, confirmed the impending Xbox release via X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday. Johan Pilestedt, the studio’s chief creative officer, expressed excitement over responding to player requests for an Xbox version of Helldivers 2 after a year of growing interest.
“We know gamers have been asking for this for some time, and we are thrilled to include more Helldivers in our game. There is so much more to come in the months and years ahead – with a larger player base, we can share even more stories! The battle for Super Earth has just begun,” stated Mikael Eriksson, the game’s director, in an announcement on Xbox Wire link.

This release is historic, as it represents the first crossover of a Sony-published title to the Xbox ecosystem. Published by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), Helldivers 2 was initially launched simultaneously on PS5 and PC, quickly becoming PlayStation’s largest-ever PC launch. It also achieved remarkable commercial success, selling 12 million copies in just 12 weeks, making it the fastest-selling game on the PlayStation platform.
The addition of Helldivers 2 to Xbox is expected to further increase sales, potentially setting a precedent for more live service games from PlayStation to consider launching on Xbox in the future.
Upon its arrival on Xbox Series S/X, Helldivers 2 will feature crossplay across all platforms. Players can choose between two editions on the Xbox Store: the Standard Edition priced at $39.99 (Rs. 2,499 in India) and the Super Citizen Edition, available for $59.99 (Rs. 3,999 in India). The game officially launches on August 26.
