Meta is reportedly working on an innovative pair of smart glasses known by the codename Hypernova. Recent leaks have provided an initial glimpse of the device, which seems to bear a resemblance to the existing Ray-Ban Meta Glasses in terms of aesthetics. There are also indications that Meta may change the name from Hypernova to ‘Meta Celeste’. Although specific features remain undisclosed, early firmware versions of the wearable are said to include a mini-game.

A source on X (formerly Twitter), known as Luna, revealed a low-resolution image of the anticipated Meta Hypernova smart glasses. The design exhibits slightly thicker arms compared to the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses but retains a solid color palette. Additionally, the frame incorporates cameras and sensors on both sides.

According to the source, the smart glasses will feature a touch bar located on the left side of the frame that will facilitate various interactions. Users may be able to capture photos or videos by tapping this area with their fingers.

In a subsequent post, another leaked image depicted a companion device referred to as the eMG wristband, reportedly named Ceres. This wristband is designed to utilize external sensors around the wrist to monitor electrical muscle signals, which will enable control over the smart glasses’ functions.

With the use of the wristband, users could potentially scroll through and select content in applications with a pinch gesture made by their index finger and thumb. Furthermore, there are suggestions that Meta may integrate wrist rotation gestures to accomplish similar tasks, alongside previously announced swipe and tap-touch controls. Additionally, testing is underway for handwriting support via the Ceres wristband, although this feature is expected to be absent at the launch.

While the internal codename for the smart glasses is Hypernova, the public-facing model is anticipated to be renamed to Meta Celeste, stylized as “𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮 | 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲.”

Furthermore, the initial firmware for the smart glasses is believed to include a mini-game dubbed Hypertrail, which draws inspiration from the classic Galaga video game released by Namco in 1981.

Previous reports suggest that the smart glasses will operate on a “highly customized” version of Android. They may be introduced with a single display located in the “lower right quadrant of the right lens.” Upon release, the pricing for the Hypernova (or Celeste) glasses is expected to range between $1,000 (approximately ₹85,600) and $1,400 (around ₹1,19,800) in the United States.
