Rumors are circulating that Gemini Live may soon be available on the desktop version of Google Chrome, following a report from a tipster on social media. The two-way conversational artificial intelligence (AI) feature made its debut for Gemini Advanced users on Android in September and subsequently expanded to iOS with the launch of the Gemini for iOS app last month. Now, indications found in the Chrome desktop build suggest it could be the next platform to host Google’s AI solution.

Gemini Live on Google Chrome

Tipster Leopeva64 (@Leopeva64) shared insights about the potential introduction of Gemini Live on Google Chrome last month. A new feature flag identified in Chromium Gerrit, a code review tool for developers involved in the Chromium open-source project, reportedly carries the GLIC codename, speculated to stand for Gemini Live in Chrome.

According to the tipster, enabling this flag introduces an exclamation mark icon to the tab strip. Reports suggest that the AI feature will require access to the device’s microphone and location. It is anticipated to have its own settings page and a dedicated user interface (UI), potentially allowing users to access GLIC from the toolbar, use a keyboard shortcut, and manage its activity.

While the presence of the feature in Chrome has been confirmed, interacting with the panel currently remains unfeasible.

Gemini Live Features

Originally introduced at Google I/O 2024 in May, Gemini Live is designed to facilitate real-time conversations between users and the chatbot using natural language. It enables users to verbally pose questions to the AI assistant, which responds similarly. Users can also ask follow-up questions without needing to restate the entire context.

Gemini Live allows for a personalized experience, offering users a choice of 10 different voices to engage with the AI, each with its own unique pitch, accent, and energy levels. The feature is multilingual, supporting over 40 languages, including nine Indian languages: Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, and Urdu.
