According to a tipster on Weibo, Apple’s entry-level iPhone 17 model is set to feature a larger display compared to the current iPhone 16. Previous reports have indicated that the upcoming iPhone 17 will showcase a screen size that rivals the iPhone 16 Pro. In addition to the size increase, Apple is expected to enhance the display technology in the standard iPhone 17 with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Anticipated Display Features of the iPhone 17

Tipster Digital Chat Station shared on Weibo that the iPhone 17 will be fitted with a sizable 6.3-inch display. This mirrors the enlargement introduced last year with the iPhone 16 Pro, suggesting that Apple is aligning its base model with its more premium counterpart. Multiple previous leaks have pointed towards notable enhancements in the display features of the forthcoming smartphone.

This week, an inadvertent listing on Amazon India for Spigen’s EZ Fit tempered glass revealed compatibility with not only the iPhone 16 Pro but also the forthcoming “iPhone 17” and “iPhone 17 Pro.” Although references to these devices were later removed, the listing suggests that all three models will likely share the 6.3-inch display specification.

Reports citing analysts have conveyed that Apple intends to not only increase the display size of the iPhone 17 but also improve its performance. Currently, all non-Pro models, including the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, feature 60Hz displays. The inclusion of 120Hz LTPO OLED screens is anticipated for both the standard iPhone 17 and the rumored iPhone 17 Air models this year.

Despite the introduction of a 120Hz display to the standard iPhone model, it appears that Apple will reserve certain features such as the always-on display and adaptive refresh rates—ranging between 1Hz and 120Hz—for the iPhone 17 Pro variants.

Furthermore, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air are expected to be integrated with Samsung’s latest M14 OLED technology. Reportedly, Apple utilized this new OLED technology in its iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, and plans to apply the same advanced display across all four models in its 2025 lineup.
