Snapchat, the popular visual messaging platform, has surpassed 200 million monthly active users in India, with 120 million users engaging with content on the app, according to an announcement made by parent company Snap on Tuesday.

On this milestone, Snap introduced My AI, a new AI-powered chatbot designed for Snapchat. This chatbot offers personalized recommendations for various activities, including birthday gift ideas, trip planning for long weekends, and dinner recipes.

“Snapchat reaches over 200 million monthly active users in India,” stated the company in a recent release.

Globally, Snapchat boasts more than 750 million monthly active users, with 90 percent falling within the 18-24 age demographic.

“I am excited to have joined Snap at a time when our Indian community’s momentum is at an all-time high. There is tremendous potential for partners, creators, and brands to foster communities and develop businesses on Snapchat, and we look forward to what lies ahead,” said Ajit Mohan, President of Snap APAC.

Snap reported that over 120 million users in India are actively viewing content through stories, user-generated content in Spotlight, and partnered content on the app. Internal data from the company indicates that Snapchat users in India engage with Augmented Reality (AR) Lenses over 50 billion times each month, with more than 85 percent utilizing these Lenses to express themselves during festive occasions.

In an effort to cultivate a local e-commerce ecosystem, Snap has begun partnering with merchants in India, leveraging its AR-enabled platform.

“As our Snapchat community continues to expand in India, Snap is actively growing its team and enhancing its operations with new hires across various roles to better support Indian Snapchatter users,” the statement added.
