WhatsApp has initiated the rollout of its Companion Mode for iOS users, following the feature’s announcement last month. This new mode allows users to connect up to four additional devices, including other smartphones. Messages sent to the primary smartphone will also be available on these linked devices. Although Android beta testers had already experienced this feature, iOS support has now become widely accessible with the latest application update.
The deployment of WhatsApp’s Companion Mode for iOS was highlighted by feature tracking website WABetaInfo. The Meta-owned messaging platform is updating the application to version 23.10.76, now available on the App Store, which includes options to link an iPhone with a primary smartphone.
The update log for WhatsApp for iOS 23.10.76 indicates the rollout of this feature, allowing users to log out of their existing WhatsApp accounts and configure their iPhones as linked devices. To utilize this functionality, WhatsApp must be installed and registered with a phone number on one of the smartphones.
This companion mode supports cross-platform functionality, enabling users to connect an iPhone to an existing WhatsApp account on an Android device and vice versa. Although access on secondary devices may be limited, users will still be able to view messages and archived chats across all linked devices.
To link an iPhone running the new version of WhatsApp to another smartphone, users can follow these steps:
- Open WhatsApp on your iPhone after updating to WhatsApp for iOS 23.10.76.
- Tap Or link this device to an existing account to generate a QR code.
- On your primary smartphone, access WhatsApp and open the settings (iOS) or the three-dot menu icon (Android), then select Linked Devices.
- Choose the option Link with QR code.
- Use your other smartphone to scan the QR code displayed on your iPhone to finalize the linking process.
