The year 2024 is proving to be a strong one for video game enthusiasts, with highly anticipated releases like Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League already making waves. March is set to continue this trend, featuring a busy lineup of new titles. WWE 2K24 made its debut on March 8, showcasing an updated wrestling experience filled with familiar fun. Additionally, Team Ninja will release its latest action-RPG, Rise of the Ronin, later in the month, promising to expand its signature challenging gameplay into an open-world narrative.

Also on the horizon are significant ports hitting the market. Hi-Fi Rush, a well-received Xbox and PC title, will be available on PS5 starting March 18. This move comes after Xbox’s announcement to release several of its first-party games on additional platforms, starting with the rhythm-based action game from Tango Gameworks. Following closely, Horizon Forbidden West will make its long-awaited arrival on PC on March 21, after a two-year exclusive time on PlayStation consoles.

One of the most notable launches this month is Dragon’s Dogma 2, the long-anticipated sequel to Capcom’s 2012 hit. This action RPG enables players to tackle fearsome creatures alongside their companions in an expansive open world. Scheduled for March 22, it will be available on current-gen consoles and PC. A range of other exciting titles from various genres will also be released throughout the month. Below is a selection of key titles to watch for across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch this March.

The Thaumaturge

When: March 4

Where: PC

For fans of RPGs who have been captivated by Baldur’s Gate III, The Thaumaturge will likely be a worthy addition. This turn-based RPG offers a top-down perspective and focuses on a compelling narrative and engaging gameplay, even if it may not boast the same production scale as its predecessor. Players assume the role of Wictor Szulski, a detective and thaumaturge committed to uncovering the truth behind his father’s death.

A thaumaturge is a unique magician who can capture and command spirits called salutors, which embody various human flaws. These spirits grant the protagonist special abilities in combat. The game thrives on a supernatural narrative rooted in historical fiction, set against the backdrop of Warsaw under tsarist control. Through dialogue-heavy interactions, players help shape the story while navigating challenges both within and outside Wictor himself, executing turn-based combat strategies and solving puzzles to progress.

WWE 2K24

When: March 8 (March 5 for Deluxe Edition)

Where: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X

Timed for the upcoming Wrestlemania XL on April 6, WWE 2K24 has made its entrance with an exciting roster of new features. This year’s installment includes four fresh game modes, such as Special Guest Referee, Ambulance Match, Casket Match, and Gauntlet Match, rekindling former fan-favorite match types.

Players can now perform a new Super Finisher move, adding variety to the combat experience. Single-player enthusiasts will enjoy new MyRISE journeys and the Showcase of Immortals mode, which commemorates 40 years of Wrestlemania. The game boasts over 200 WWE superstars, featuring legendary icons alongside the current roster. However, some may find the game’s visuals and gameplay to lack significant enhancements compared to previous editions.

Hi-Fi Rush

When: March 19

Where: PS5

Initially an Xbox exclusive, Hi-Fi Rush quickly captured players’ attention with its rhythm-action mechanics and distinctive art style. It will finally reach a broader audience as it launches on PS5 on March 19, following Microsoft’s recent initiative to make several exclusive titles available on other platforms.

Players take on the role of Chai, a rock star with a music player integrated into his chest, allowing for combat synchronized to the game’s beat. With vibrant visuals and energetic sound design, Hi-Fi Rush promises to bring its unique rhythm-driven gameplay experience to the PlayStation audience.

Alone in the Dark

When: March 20

Where: PC, PS5, XSX/S

The 2024 reboot of Alone in the Dark revives the classic survival horror franchise, keeping its essence while introducing new elements. Players navigate a haunting, mysterious mansion filled with dark secrets, solving intricately woven puzzles while avoiding lurking threats in the shadows.

In this iteration, players can step into the shoes of two protagonists: Emily Hartwood (portrayed by Jodie Comer) and private investigator Edward Carnby (played by David Harbour). This allows the narrative to be experienced from multiple perspectives, impacting decision-making and story outcomes through dialogue choices and problem-solving.

Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition

When: March 21

Where: PC

The acclaimed open-world action-adventure title from Guerrilla Games, Horizon Forbidden West, is finally making its way to PC two years after its initial release on PlayStation platforms. The port is being managed by Nixxes Software, known for their proficient adaptations of popular titles.

Players will once again step into the shoes of huntress Aloy. Armed with newfound knowledge and abilities from her previous adventures, Aloy faces new challenges as she traverses the west and engages with diverse tribes and formidable machines. The Complete Edition will not only include the core game but also the Burning Shores expansion, providing an all-encompassing experience that showcases the game’s stunning visuals on high-end PCs. It will be available on Steam and Epic Games Store starting March 21.

Princess Peach: Showtime!

When: March 22

Where: Nintendo Switch

In a delightful return, Princess Peach takes center stage in her own game for the first time since Super Princess Peach in 2005. Nintendo’s newest action-adventure title is far from a typical 2D platformer, showcasing creative gameplay elements to engage players. The story unfolds in Sparkle Theatre, where a performance is interrupted by villains Grape and the Sour Bunch, prompting Peach to enlist the help of a magical ribbon named Stella to thwart the impending chaos and develop unique abilities for her rescue mission.

The gameplay blends traditional 2D platforming aspects with opportunities for exploration in 3D environments, creating a refreshing experience. Each level is thematically crafted, reminiscent of a theatrical backdrop, indicating a fresh narrative without relying on the classic Mario tropes, which ultimately sets Princess Peach: Showtime! apart and captivates players with unique puzzles and scenarios.

Dragon’s Dogma 2

When: March 22

Where: PS5, Xbox Series S/X, PC

The fan-favorite role-playing title Dragon’s Dogma, originally released in 2012, is receiving a much-anticipated sequel. Dragon’s Dogma 2 promises to build upon its predecessor’s monster-slaying gameplay, offering even greater exploration in a world four times the size.

Players will embark on the journey of the Arisen, a dragon-marked hero, with the support of their Pawns, as they complete quests, hunt formidable creatures, and confront the dragon once again. The RPG will feature unique classes with distinct abilities, and elements reminiscent of Shadow of the Colossus, allowing players to target monster weak points. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is set to be released on March 22 for PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.

Rise of the Ronin

When: March 22

Where: PS5

In Rise of the Ronin, players immerse themselves in the life of a masterless samurai navigating the rich historical backdrop of medieval Japan. This action RPG from Team Ninja promises a narrative rich in themes of honor, betrayal, and redemption, as players explore vibrant forests, bustling towns, and ancient temples filled with peril and opportunity.

The game features a diverse cast of characters, from stealthy assassins to honourable lords, offering intriguing interactions and depths to the gameplay. Combat is layered, rewarding precision and strategy over mere button mashing, while visually stunning graphics will transport players to a beautifully detailed era.

South Park: Snow Day!

When: March 26

Where: PC, PS5, XSX/S, Switch

In a stark contrast to Alone in the Dark, South Park: Snow Day! brings co-op action adventure to life, allowing players to enjoy a hilariously chaotic snow day with their friends. Fans of the animated series can expect the characteristic humor and biting satire that South Park is renowned for.

With a blizzard blanketing the town and school canceled, players join Cartman, Stan, Kyle, and Kenny in their snowy exploits. Expect a flurry of fun as characters build snow forts or engage in mischief while performing daring sled tricks, ensuring excitement at every turn.
