Stellar Blade, the action game from South Korean developer Shift Up, made waves this month with its launch on PC, setting a record as Sony’s largest single-player Steam release. The successful transition to PC has seen total sales exceed three million copies across both PS5 and PC platforms. Reports indicate that Shift Up is now in the early stages of developing a version of Stellar Blade for the newly introduced Nintendo Switch 2. While the studio has not officially confirmed the Switch 2 port, it has previously expressed intentions to expand the franchise to additional platforms.

Switch 2 Version of Stellar Blade in Development

A recent report from the Korean news outlet PlayForum, referenced by VGC, reveals that Shift Up has commenced work on a Switch 2 adaptation of Stellar Blade. The studio has reportedly acquired an official developer kit for the new console and has begun initial adaptations for the port. The report details that Shift Up is focusing on creating content that takes advantage of the Switch 2’s low-power architecture, its portable interface, and a user experience designed for mobility.

After launching on PC on June 11, Stellar Blade quickly ascended the Steam charts, achieving a peak of over 192,000 concurrent players. This impressive performance solidifies its status as Sony’s most significant single-player release on the PC platform. While Sony was involved in the publishing for both PS5 and PC versions, it remains uncertain whether the company will play a role in the Switch 2 adaptation.

Upcoming Sequel to Stellar Blade

This week, Shift Up announced that Stellar Blade has surpassed three million sales jointly across PS5 and PC. Additionally, the studio has confirmed the development of a sequel set to release before 2027. While specific details about the sequel remain under wraps, studio CEO and Stellar Blade director Kim Hyung-tae indicated that it will emphasize a more comprehensive story.

In an interview with the Korean outlet This is Game, Hyung-tae noted that budget limitations during the original game’s development meant that some narrative elements were omitted. He assured fans that the sequel would provide a more enriched storyline.

Stellar Blade originally debuted on PS5 on April 26, 2024, selling over two million copies on that platform alone. The game garnered significant attention due to its striking character designs and thrilling real-time combat mechanics. The PC version included additional content and features specific to the platform, such as ultra-wide monitor support and an unlocked framerate. A free update delivered the new content from the PC release back to the PS5 version, enhancing the experience for all players.
