On Monday, Amazon unveiled a new artificial intelligence (AI) agent capable of executing various browser-based tasks. Named the Amazon Nova Act, this AI agent leverages the company’s Nova family of AI models, which Amazon describes as offering “frontier intelligence and industry-leading price performance.” Currently, the Nova Act is offered as a software development kit (SDK) and is accessible to users in the U.S. in its research preview phase.
Amazon Introduces A Browser-Based AI Agent
In an announcement from its Seattle headquarters, Amazon detailed the expansion of its Nova AI models alongside the launch of the AI agent. The Nova family of AI models was first introduced in December 2024, comprising three variants: Micro, Lite, and Pro.
These large language models (LLMs) are designed to provide advanced AI capabilities at competitive pricing. Initially, access was limited to invite-only for businesses. Developers and AI enthusiasts can now explore these models through a dedicated website, which is currently only available in the U.S.
The website showcases the Nova Act, aimed specifically at developers, who can utilize it to integrate agentic functionalities into their applications and software. Powered by an early version of a customized Nova model, the Nova Act remains in the research preview phase and is also accessible to U.S. users.
Amazon states that the AI agent can autonomously carry out a variety of tasks within a web browser, which may include filling out forms, making online purchases, or reserving tables at restaurants. However, the company has not specified the full range of tasks that Nova Act can perform. Amazon characterizes AI agents as “systems that can complete tasks and act in a range of digital and physical environments on behalf of the user.”
“The Nova.amazon.com platform makes it easier than ever to explore the capabilities of Amazon Nova. We’ve created this experience to inspire developers, allowing them to quickly test and scale their ideas using Nova models and Amazon Bedrock,” commented Rohit Prasad, Senior Vice President of Amazon Artificial General Intelligence.
