On Thursday, Threads introduced a suite of new features designed to enhance profile personalization, feed organization, and video playback capabilities. The Meta-owned microblogging platform now allows users to customize the arrangement of their feeds. Additionally, the introduction of topics in bios enables users to showcase their favorite communities and interests to visitors on their profile. The platform has also made significant improvements to the video player, post interactions, and the display of civic content.
New Features on Threads
Previously, users of Threads could select from the “For You,” “Following,” and “Custom” feeds by swiping down on the home screen. The latest update introduces the ability to designate a default feed that will automatically appear when the app is reopened; users can even set a custom feed as their default.
Moreover, Threads is currently testing a feature that enables users to add up to 10 topics to their bios, allowing for further personalization. By clicking on a topic, users can access discussions related to that subject on the platform. The company has also revamped the timely topics tag, making it more prominent within posts found in the For You feed. Additionally, users now have the option to add suggested trending topics or related tags to previously published posts while drafting new content. According to Threads, an analysis indicated that posts featuring tagged topics achieve a broader reach than those that do not.
In line with the Quote Controls feature launched last year, users can now limit replies and quote posts to only those from their followers. A new option labeled Your followers has been added to the dropdown menu, joining existing selection options. Another notable enhancement is the upgraded video player, now equipped with skip and rewind functionalities. The progress bar has also been fixed to the player, facilitating easier navigation for fast-forwarding and rewinding video clips.
Staff members at Gadgets 360 have confirmed that these features are available in the latest version of the Threads app for Android devices, though the iOS version still awaits the update. Due to the phased rollout of these features, it may take some time for all users to gain access.
