Meta has announced a significant update regarding the way users can share videos on Facebook. Currently, videos can be posted either as standard videos or as reels, each utilizing different workflows. However, in a forthcoming update, all videos will be shared exclusively as reels, according to a statement released by the company.

“Facebook continues to be a platform for all video formats—whether short, long, or Live,” Meta stated. The rollout of these changes will occur gradually across profiles and pages worldwide to facilitate easier creation, sharing, and discovery of reels on Facebook in the coming months.

In conjunction with these updates, Meta will eliminate the current 90-second limit on reels, expanding the potential length of videos shared on the platform, as noted on a support page.

Furthermore, the Video tab on Facebook will be rebranded to the Reels tab. Despite this transition, the company assures users that it will continue to provide a diverse array of video content based on individual preferences and interests.

These modifications come in light of Mark Zuckerberg’s assertion earlier this year to enhance Facebook’s cultural impact and return to some of its foundational elements. Last year, the company also introduced a full-screen mobile video player on Facebook. Additionally, Meta has been promoting reels on Instagram, where users have had the ability to create reels up to three minutes long since January.
