Sony has rolled out a special promotional campaign for select older models of the PlayStation 5 in India. Dubbed the “Summer Promo,” this initiative will provide a discount of up to Rs. 13,000 on the standard PS5, coinciding with the recent launch of the slimmer variant in the country. The promotion is set to commence on April 10 and will continue until April 30, or until stock lasts.
This promotion specifically targets the disc version of the standard PS5, model number CFI -1208A01R, which was introduced in India in February 2021 at a retail price of Rs. 54,990. Sony India confirmed to Gadgets 360 that the discount will be applied variably based on the specific products and will also extend to bundles that include the disc edition PS5.
The discounts will be available through various online platforms, including Amazon, Blinkit, Croma, Flipkart, Reliance, Sony Centre, and Vijay Sales, among others. It’s important to note that this promotional offer will not apply to the Digital Edition of the older console model or the newly unveiled PS5 slim.
The PS5 slim, which was first revealed in October last year, recently became available for purchase in India. This latest discount effort seems to be a strategy to reduce inventory of the older console model.
The slimmer version of the console is designed to be thinner and lighter, maintaining the same retail price of Rs. 54,990 for the disc edition and priced at Rs. 44,990 for the digital edition. Additionally, customers in select Indian cities can opt for a ten-minute delivery through Blinkit for the new slim variant.
Since its launch in November 2020, the PS5 has surpassed 50 million unit sales. However, Sony reported in its latest quarterly earnings call that sales momentum has been declining. The company announced it was likely to fall short of its PS5 sales target for fiscal year 2023, anticipating four million fewer sales than its goal of 25 million units for the year.
