On Wednesday, Meta unveiled a new artificial intelligence (AI) video editing capability that allows users to enhance their short-form videos effortlessly. This feature offers preset templates designed for altering backgrounds, applying new effects, and even changing clothing styles. Currently available for free for a limited time, this AI-driven editing tool can be accessed through the Meta AI app, the Meta.AI website, and the newly launched Edits app. The rollout of these AI templates is taking place in select regions, with plans for additional features to be introduced later this year.
In an announcement shared through a newsroom post, Meta revealed information about the new video editing feature. This capability leverages the same Movie Gen AI model that was highlighted last year by Instagram Head Adam Mosseri in a video, where he showcased his ability to manipulate various video elements, including backgrounds and subject details, using text prompts.
Although the current AI video editing tool does not support the use of text prompts, Meta has indicated that users can expect to edit videos with their own textual instructions later this year, enabling them to achieve their desired video edits more precisely.
The existing functionality allows users to select from over 50 preset AI prompts. These prompts can transform the setting of a video to mimic a desert, dress a character in a tuxedo, or alter the visuals to create an animated appearance. However, it is important to note that the feature is limited to editing only the first 10 seconds of videos for now.
Despite Meta’s announcement regarding the availability of this feature in the Meta AI app, Meta.AI website, and the Edits app across the US and numerous other countries, staff from Gadgets 360 have yet to see it in action. It remains unclear if India is among the countries selected for the feature’s release.
Users who gain access to the editing capabilities will have the option to share their modified videos directly to Facebook and Instagram via the Meta AI and Edits app. They can also choose to post their creations to the Discover feed within the Meta AI app and website.
