Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta Platforms, is assembling a team of specialists focused on developing “artificial general intelligence” (AGI) — technology that can either match or exceed human capabilities, according to a report by Bloomberg News on Tuesday.
In conjunction with this effort, Zuckerberg is reportedly investing more than $10 billion (approximately Rs. 85,563 crore) in Scale AI. Sources indicate that Alexandr Wang, the founder of Scale AI, is expected to join the AGI team following the completion of the investment deal.
Reuters has not yet been able to verify the information provided by Bloomberg. Additionally, Meta did not reply to requests for comments outside of regular business hours.
According to Bloomberg, Zuckerberg’s initiative to recruit about 50 individuals, including a new head of AI research for the AGI team, has been partially motivated by dissatisfaction with the performance and reception of Meta’s recent large language model, Llama 4.
Last month, Meta postponed the launch of its leading “Behemoth” AI model due to issues concerning its capabilities, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Competitive companies like OpenAI are also exploring strategies to enhance their investment potential in pursuit of developing AGI.
