Adobe has announced significant updates to Premiere Pro, introducing a range of AI-driven features designed to enhance video editing efficiency and quality. The new version, 25.2, launched today, brings tools for searching, translating, and extending video footage into general availability for all users.
One of the standout features is Generative Extend, first unveiled in October. This innovative tool allows users to elongate clips by as much as two seconds, facilitating smoother transitions or correcting unplanned movements without needing to reshoot. The function now supports clip generation in 4K resolution and can extend ambient background audio for up to ten seconds or two seconds if combined with video, although it does not apply to speech or music.
Adobe stated that Generative Extend will be available for free for a limited period, after which users will need to utilize Firefly generative credits to access the feature. Creative Cloud subscribers will receive a monthly allocation of credits ranging from 25 to 1,000, based on their subscription level. An additional Firefly credit subscription is offered at $10 per month for 2,000 credits. Although Adobe has not disclosed the exact credit consumption for the Generative Extend tool, it indicated that costs will depend on video specifications, including format, frame rate, and resolution.
In addition to Generative Extend, Premiere Pro’s latest update features an AI-powered Search panel that automatically identifies content within the user’s video library. This allows for keyword searches based on descriptions of objects, locations, camera angles, and effects, such as “close-ups of hands working in a kitchen.” Furthermore, the Premiere Color Management feature can automatically convert log and raw files to SDR or HDR, streamlining the editing process with a new wide-gamut color pipeline.
The updated Premiere Pro now boasts an AI translation feature capable of converting video captions into 27 languages, enabling users to display multiple caption tracks during editing. Additionally, the new version offers enhanced speed and performance enhancements for users on both Apple silicon and Windows platforms.
This release of Premiere Pro coincides with the launch of After Effects version 25.2, which includes new HDR monitoring features, enhanced animation controls, support for 3D FBX models, and animated environmental light effects. The update also introduces a High Performance Preview Playback function, optimizing previewing for longer compositions through an advanced caching system that utilizes both RAM and local disk space.
