On Friday, Google unveiled a new feature for AI Mode, its artificial intelligence-enhanced search capability. This innovative addition allows users to create interactive graphs and charts, facilitating a clearer understanding of data patterns. According to the Mountain View-based company, the feature is particularly beneficial for analyzing financial information. The underlying AI models can track specific data points over time, providing users with graphical representations of that data.

AI Mode Introduces Data Visualization Feature

In a blog post, Google provided insights about the new functionality. Currently, it is accessible only through Google Labs and is still in the preview stage. Users in the United States can activate this feature within the Labs portal. According to Google, the data visualization tool aims to assist users with inquiries related to stocks and mutual funds.

It remains uncertain whether users will need to prompt the chatbot to generate a chart or if the AI will autonomously produce visual data based on its interpretation of the relevance of the queries. An example shared by the company demonstrated the AI mode generating an interactive chart independently in response to a stock-related question. Moreover, there’s ambiguity regarding whether the visualization feature extends beyond financial topics or is currently limited to that domain.

Google asserts that the feature can effectively compare and analyze various pieces of information over specific timeframes, presenting the findings through interactive graphs accompanied by detailed explanations to enhance user comprehension.

For instance, when a user requests AI Mode to “compare the stock performance of blue chip CPG companies in 2024,” the advanced Gemini model utilizes reasoning and multimodal capabilities to produce an interactive chart instead of conventional text or table displays. Users are also able to pose follow-up questions, such as inquiries about dividend payments from these companies, with the AI Mode promptly providing that data as well.

In addition, reports indicate that Google has begun rolling out Search Live, a feature akin to Gemini Live, allowing select users in the US to engage with AI Mode in a hands-free manner.
