On Wednesday, OpenAI unveiled two new features for ChatGPT users aimed at enhancing productivity. The latest update for the application’s MacOS version introduces Record Mode, designed to capture meetings, brainstorming sessions, and voice notes while providing transcriptions and summaries of key discussion points. This feature is currently exclusive to subscribers of the ChatGPT Team tier. In a complementary development, the San Francisco-based company also introduced Connectors, a tool that enables the chatbot to access and utilize the user’s internal cloud-based data sources, including Gmail, Outlook, and Google Drive.
ChatGPT Can Now Record Your Meetings
The announcement of these features was made through a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) from OpenAI’s official account. A live demonstration of the functionalities was also presented during a YouTube stream. Both features are available only to paid subscribers, with Record Mode specifically tailored for Team users. However, users in the European Economic Area (EEA), China, and the UK will not have access to Record Mode.
Record Mode allows Team users leveraging the ChatGPT desktop app on MacOS to initiate recordings by clicking a new Record button located at the bottom of the chat interface. After granting microphone permissions, the chatbot can begin capturing audio from meetings or voice notes. At the conclusion of a session, it offers an editable summary of the conversation alongside the recorded audio.
According to OpenAI, users will have the ability to search for previous meetings and reference them in ongoing conversations, providing pertinent context. The transcripts generated from these meetings will be saved within the user’s chat history, and users will have the option to reformat the transcripts into emails, project plans, or even code scaffolds. Notably, the recording feature accommodates sessions lasting up to 120 minutes.
In another noteworthy update, OpenAI introduced Connectors, allowing ChatGPT to retrieve real-time information from various third-party internal data sources. This feature is compatible with platforms such as Outlook, Teams, Google Drive, Gmail, and Linear. Additionally, Team, Enterprise, and Edu subscribers can integrate SharePoint, Dropbox, and Box. Connectors are available exclusively when utilizing the Deep Research feature.
Furthermore, OpenAI is providing workspace administrators with the capability to create custom Deep Research Connectors through the beta version of the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
