Amazon is reportedly working on software designed for humanoid robots, which may potentially replace delivery workers, according to a report from The Information, referencing an anonymous source familiar with the situation.
Efforts to verify this report with Reuters were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
The company is nearing completion of a “humanoid park,” an indoor obstacle course located at one of its offices in San Francisco, California, intended for testing these robots.
According to the report, Amazon is also developing the Artificial Intelligence (AI) software that would operate these robots, while for initial tests, the company plans to utilize hardware produced by other manufacturers.
Amazon has not yet issued a response to inquiries for comments outside of its regular business hours.
On Wednesday, Amazon unveiled a series of announcements highlighting how AI will enhance the efficiency of stockroom robots, delivery personnel, and its extensive warehouses, ultimately facilitating faster deliveries to customers.
