Meta has unveiled a series of enhancements to the video features on Facebook, introducing improved editing tools, support for HDR video uploads, and replacing the previous Watch tab with a new Video tab. The upgraded editing tools will enable users to incorporate music, filters, and various effects into their videos, as well as allowing them to trim, cut, and add titles and captions.
The newly designed Video tab aims to streamline the way users access and view videos on the platform. According to Meta, this tab will soon replace the old Watch tab and will be prominently located on the shortcut bar. The company describes the Video tab as a “one-stop shop for everything video on Facebook,” catering to Reels, long-form videos, and Live content. The “Video” option will be placed at the top of the Android app, while it will appear at the bottom of the iOS app.
Users will be able to navigate through a “personalised feed” of videos, which includes a dedicated section for Reels. Additionally, Meta is adapting Reels editing tools for the Facebook feed, allowing users to directly add audio, text, and music while uploading videos from the app. Enhancements also include options to adjust the speed of clips, reverse them, or replace them, alongside features aimed at simplifying the selection of audio tracks, reducing background noise, and incorporating voiceovers.
The ability to upload HDR videos from mobile devices marks a significant step for Meta as it aims to provide “true HDR video support” across all its applications. Links between Meta’s platforms are being strengthened, allowing users to view and interact with comments on Instagram Reels while using Facebook.
In recent months, Meta has focused on boosting the popularity of Reels on both Facebook and Instagram. Notably, in March, the maximum length for Reels was extended from 60 seconds to 90 seconds.
