The Asus ROG Ally X is anticipated to debut next month as a refined iteration of the 2023 ROG Ally handheld gaming console developed by the Taiwanese company. According to reports, this new device will feature significant enhancements to various components of its predecessor, which was first introduced last year. The ROG Ally X is expected to maintain the original 7-inch display and AMD processor, while also improving RAM capacity and battery performance, alongside expanded storage options.
Asus recently hinted at the upcoming release of the ROG Ally X through a promotional video on YouTube, which highlighted the substantial hardware upgrades in store for the new model. In a conversation with Technology News, Asus Senior Vice President Shawn Yen confirmed the handheld’s launch date of June 2, noting that it will include a notably larger battery—a highly requested improvement—that could provide at least three hours of usage.
In addition to enhanced battery life, the ROG Ally X will offer users more than 16GB of RAM, representing a significant upgrade over the first model. Yen also mentioned that the new console will allow for larger SSD storage upgrades due to its extended M.2 2280 SSD slot, a change from the M.2 2230 slot of the 2023 version.
While it remains unclear if previously reported issues with the SD card reader have been addressed, Technology News indicates that the ally X will feature an updated motherboard. This redesign may potentially position the component further from the device’s vents.
Furthermore, the new device will include improved grips and enhancements to the joysticks, triggers, and D-Pad, according to the report. Core specifications, including the AMD Z1 Extreme chip and the 7-inch display, are expected to carry over from the original ROG Ally model set to launch next month.
