IO Interactive has officially unveiled the title of its much-anticipated James Bond game, shedding the long-standing title of Project 007. The game will be called 007 First Light, with a full reveal scheduled for later this week. Alongside this announcement, the studio confirmed the debut of its own showcase event on June 6, where it intends to provide more details on the Bond game and spotlight its forthcoming action-adventure title, MindsEye, along with updates on the Hitman series.
Official Title Announcement and Showcase Details
The Danish studio revealed the game’s official name through a post on X on Monday, hinting that players should “earn the number.” Further insights are available on the official website for 007 First Light, which reaffirms that the game will depict an origin story where players must achieve their 00 status as James Bond.
According to the official site, “007 First Light is a brand new James Bond video game developed and published by IO Interactive. Featuring a wholly original Bond origin story, players will step into the shoes of the world’s favorite Secret Agent to earn their 00 status.”
In conjunction with the title announcement, IO Interactive disclosed plans for its inaugural IOI Showcase. This event will fully unveil 007 First Light while also offering updates on MindsEye and the Hitman: World of Assassinations series.
The showcase will be streamed live on June 6 at 6 PM PDT (June 7 at 6:30 AM IST) across IOI’s Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok channels. Anticipated content includes updates, trailers, gameplay demos, and additional surprises, according to the studio.
Last October, IO Interactive’s CEO and co-owner Hakan Abrak expressed optimism about the game’s development, referring to it as going “amazingly well.” Abrak had indicated that Project 007 — now 007 First Light — would present a completely original narrative featuring a new portrayal of James Bond, without utilizing any likeness from actors who have previously played the character in films. The executive also envisioned the game as the potential launching point for a new trilogy.
“It’s not a gamification of a movie. It’s completely beginning and becoming a story, hopefully for a big trilogy out there in the future,” Abrak noted.
The reveal trailer for 007 First Light is expected during the IOI Showcase on June 6, with a possible timeline for the game’s release also anticipated. The project has been in development since its announcement in 2020 for modern gaming platforms, likely making it available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
