WhatsApp is in the process of developing a new feature for its Android and iOS applications that will simplify the task of copying specific segments of text from messages. According to a feature tracker, this enhancement will allow users to highlight and select specific words or sentences, rather than needing to copy the entire message and then manually delete unwanted parts.
Copying Specific Parts of a Message on WhatsApp
WABetaInfo, a tracker of WhatsApp features, reports that Meta Platforms is enhancing its messaging service with this forthcoming functionality. The feature was discovered in beta versions of the app: WhatsApp Beta for iOS (version 25.16.81) and WhatsApp Beta for Android (version 2.25.18.3). Once implemented, it will enable users to snip out specific segments of text, streamlining the messaging process.
The new feature will allow users to drag their fingers over a message to highlight a phrase or sentence. Screenshots released by WABetaInfo indicate that a text highlighting window will pop up upon selection, providing options to copy or share the highlighted content.
This partial text selection feature, located within the chat interface, is expected to enhance the current capabilities of the app. Presently, users must copy entire messages before pasting them elsewhere and manually editing out the irrelevant parts, a cumbersome task when dealing with lengthy texts. The introduction of this feature aims to streamline the process for greater efficiency.
WABetaInfo confirms that this feature is still under development for both Android and iOS platforms and is currently accessible only to select beta testers enrolled through Apple’s TestFlight program, following the latest iOS update. Additionally, the feature has not yet been made available on Android or to Google Play Beta testers. A broader rollout is anticipated in the coming weeks.
