Meta’s recently launched microblogging platform, Threads, has rolled out its second update for iOS users. This new version introduces several enhancements and addresses prior issues with the application. Cameron Roth, a developer for Threads, provided insight into the deployment of this latest update. The announcement comes in the wake of a notable decline in daily active users, attributed to the absence of critical features that competitors offer.
In a recent communication on Threads, Roth confirmed that the update is currently being implemented. A variety of new functionalities will be introduced, including a text translation feature, a Follows tab in the Activity feed, and the capability to subscribe to users who have been previously unfollowed. The new Follows tab will allow users to easily identify accounts that have recently followed them.
The update further enhances user engagement by facilitating notifications for unfollowed accounts. Users will also have the option to follow accounts directly from their followers list. Additionally, tappable labels for reposts have been incorporated into the platform. The latest update also addresses various bugs and reduces the app’s binary size to improve performance.
Roth indicated that users might need to restart the app or wait until later in the day for the update to take effect, as the rollout is managed through server-delivered flags.
Recently, Threads has experienced a significant decrease in daily active users, with numbers dropping from 49 million on July 7 to approximately 23.6 million on July 14 for Android users. Despite an impressive start—gaining over 10 million users within hours and surpassing 100 million sign-ups in its first week—the platform’s appeal has waned due to the lack of essential features.
