Anticipation is building for the launch of Apple’s iPhone 17 Air, projected to be the company’s slimmest smartphone to date. Recent leaks have shed light on the device’s battery specifications and overall weight, revealing interesting insights thanks to a reliable source. While the iPhone 17 Air is expected to carry a smaller battery than the newly released Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, it is anticipated to be even thinner and lighter than its competition. The device will likely incorporate advanced battery technology, offering improved energy density compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries.

Specifications for the iPhone 17 Air’s Battery and Selfie Camera

Information from an anonymous informant, known as @MajinBuOfficial on X, indicates that the iPhone 17 Air will utilize a silicon-carbon battery. Previous reports have pointed out that this sleek device could come with a 2,800mAh battery, representing a significant reduction compared to the base model. Nevertheless, the inclusion of a silicon-carbon battery might enable the iPhone 17 Air to provide enhanced battery life over what was initially anticipated.

Described as Apple’s thinnest smartphone yet, the iPhone 17 Air is predicted to be one of the lightest models set to launch in 2025. The whistleblower asserts that the upcoming smartphone will weigh approximately 146 grams, aligning with other recent reports that suggest a focus on a lightweight design. It is also expected to feature Face ID technology for secure biometric authentication.

For the iPhone 17 Air’s frame, Apple is reportedly opting for a 7000 series aluminum alloy, which could weigh up to 30 grams, diverging from the titanium used in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The source has indicated the approximate weights of various components, identifying the 120Hz OLED display and the battery as the heaviest, each weighing around 35 grams.

The device is set to sport a single 48-megapixel rear camera alongside a 24-megapixel front-facing selfie camera. Powering the iPhone 17 Air will be Apple’s A19 chip, with expectations of it housing 8GB of RAM, similar to last year’s iPhone 16 Plus. The informant has also disclosed that the rear panel of the handset will be made from glass and that it will support wireless (MagSafe) charging capabilities.
