Sony is preparing to unveil a price reduction for its PS5 consoles as part of the upcoming Days of Play promotion. This annual event, which typically occurs toward the end of May, is expected to feature discounts on a range of PlayStation products including consoles, games, and accessories. Notably, the company is also anticipated to announce its first official discount on the PS5 Pro, which was introduced last year.
Sony Set to Launch Days of Play Sale
Details regarding the Days of Play promotion were disclosed by well-known leaker billbil-kun over the weekend. In a report published on Dealabs on Saturday, the source indicated that the promotional event is scheduled to run from May 28 to June 11, offering reduced prices on PS5 consoles, games, accessories, and PlayStation Plus memberships.
The leaker mentioned that in Europe, the PS5 slim is expected to see a discount of EUR 100, representing the most significant price drop for the console to date. This price reduction will apply to both the physical and digital versions of the PS5 slim. Meanwhile, the PS5 Pro is anticipated to receive a EUR 50 price cut, the first since its launch in November 2024.
Specifically, the PS5 slim standard edition is projected to be priced at EUR 449.99, down from EUR 549.99. The digital edition is expected to drop to EUR 399.99, reduced from EUR 499.99. The PS5 Pro, originally priced at EUR 799.99 in Europe, will be available for EUR 749.99 during the promotional event.
Additionally, the leaker noted that the PS VR2 headset and some DualSense controllers are likely to see a EUR 50 discount. Sony is expected to announce the details of the Days of Play promotion later this week, with an official announcement likely on May 27.
In India, a localized version of the Days of Play promotion is anticipated, featuring discounts on PS5 consoles, games, and accessories; however, the PS5 Pro is not available in the Indian market.
During last year’s Days of Play sale, announced on May 29, the PS5 slim digital edition was offered at a discounted price of Rs. 39,990.
Recently, Sony increased the prices of PS5 consoles in regions including Europe, the Middle East, Africa (EMEA), Australia, and New Zealand, citing a challenging economic landscape. This adjustment followed a series of tariffs on U.S. imports announced by former President Donald Trump in April. Earlier in the month, Microsoft also raised prices for its Xbox consoles, games, and accessories, attributing the hike to market conditions and increasing development costs.
