Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder and CEO of Meta, addressed his potential “cage-fight” with Elon Musk, the owner of X (formerly known as Twitter), in a post on Threads on Monday.
This interaction follows Musk’s announcement on Sunday that the planned face-off would be broadcasted on his platform, X.
In response to Musk’s post, Zuckerberg shared a screenshot and questioned whether they should use a more dependable platform that could contribute to charitable causes. He also expressed his readiness for the fight, noting that he had previously suggested August 26 as a potential date when Musk first issued the challenge. Zuckerberg remarked, “Not holding my breath,” indicating uncertainty about Musk’s commitment.
The tech giants reportedly agreed to a “cage match” in late June, with Zuckerberg being a trained mixed martial arts (MMA) practitioner who has recently earned a blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
Musk disclosed on Monday that he plans to employ the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) style for their fight, stating, “Am going with @WWE as my fighting style,” showcasing his unique approach to the event.
The back-and-forth banter between Zuckerberg and Musk has attracted considerable attention on social media, particularly after Zuckerberg launched Threads, which is viewed as a competitor to Musk’s X.
This rivalry gained traction when Musk, upon seeing discussions about Meta’s Threads, suggested the world would be “exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options.” A user humorously warned Musk about Zuckerberg’s jiu-jitsu skills, emphasizing the competitive nature of their exchanges.
With Musk’s history of making statements and not following up, it remains uncertain whether the two tech leaders will actually step into the ring in Las Vegas.
