WhatsApp is reportedly developing new text formatting tools aimed at aiding coders, programmers, and software developers. These features were recently identified in the latest beta update of WhatsApp for Desktop and are expected to include three distinct new formatting options. This enhancement will facilitate easier sharing and reading of code on the messaging platform, with potential availability for Android and iOS users in the future. In a separate update, WhatsApp has already begun providing HD photo sharing capabilities to all users on its stable channel.
A report from WABetaInfo, which tracks WhatsApp developments, indicates that the messaging app is poised to introduce a “Code Block” feature. This addition is designed to improve the readability of technical code shared within chats, making it more accessible for those in the software development field.
Additionally, a “Quote” feature is also rumored to be part of this expanding toolkit. This new option will reportedly allow users to reference specific messages or replies within a chat. Unlike the existing quoting feature, the anticipated tool will enable users to select a precise portion of text to quote, streamlining conversations that reference prior messages.
The third proposed tool is expected to introduce a list-making capability within WhatsApp messages. Details regarding this feature include a screenshot showcasing the new formatting options, which highlight the platform’s commitment to enhancing user communication.
There is currently no official timeline from WhatsApp regarding when these features will be accessible to beta testers. Presently, these tools are under development in the beta phase. As with most developmental features, there is a possibility that they may be included in a beta update prior to being introduced in the stable version, or they could be retracted altogether.
In a recent update, WhatsApp has introduced HD photo sharing functionality for all users, enabling the transmission of high-quality, high-resolution images across WhatsApp on Android, iOS, the web, and desktop platforms.
