Masala Games, the developers behind the indie game Detective Dotson based in Ahmedabad, have announced exciting cooperative gameplay features for their latest title. This upcoming mystery-adventure game will include unique levels specifically designed for two-player co-op sessions, distinct from single-player scenarios. Players will also have the opportunity to choose from various characters, each equipped with special abilities tailored to assist in various situations during gameplay.
The existence of a couch co-op mode was first revealed in June through the game’s Xbox announcement trailer. In a recent Xbox Wire post, Masala Games CEO Shalin Shodhan elaborated on how this mode will function on the Xbox Series S/X platforms.
The cooperative missions in Detective Dotson will be crafted as dedicated levels meant for two players. These co-op cases will complement the single-player experiences and will utilize a dynamic split-screen system for couch play. “What this means is that while you are both in the same space, the screen won’t split into two sections unless you and your partner are sufficiently far apart,” Shodhan explained. The co-op campaign will also allow players to select different characters, each with unique abilities to aid in solving mysteries.

The co-op feature was developed expressly for current-generation Xbox consoles, thanks to support from the ID@Xbox Developer Accelerator Program (DAP) grant.
Detective Dotson was initially revealed in March, with a playable demo released on Steam. A new trailer in June confirmed its availability on Xbox Series S/X consoles.
This cozy mystery-adventure game draws inspiration from Bollywood and Indian culture, presenting pixel-art visuals that reflect real Indian cities. Players will step into the shoes of the titular detective, tackling cases, collecting clues, and unveiling mysteries. Detective Dotson is set to launch on Xbox Series S/X and PC (via Steam) in early 2024.
