Helldivers 2 is poised for its most significant update yet, introducing an array of new challenges, enemies, and mission objectives on August 6. Titled the Escalation of Freedom, this free update was announced alongside a new trailer on the PlayStation Blog on Tuesday. This content drop will expand the game significantly, including larger enemy outposts and an increased difficulty level.
Arrowhead Game Studios provided details on the forthcoming enhancements to Helldivers 2 with this update. Scheduled six months after the game’s initial launch, the update incorporates player feedback and is characterized as the most substantial content delivery to date. Although the game has already seen regular updates, the upcoming release promises to elevate the gameplay experience considerably.
Elevated Difficulty Levels in Helldivers 2
The upcoming update will introduce a new Combat Rating 10 (CR10) difficulty level, offering players the most challenging helldiving experience to date. Dubbed Super Helldive, this level not only raises the stakes significantly but also enhances the rewards for players who dare to take on its challenges.
Increased mission variety is another focus of this update. Players can look forward to new mission objectives and larger enemy outposts that feature both Terminids and Automatons. Additionally, new Super Sample rewards will be available, with the studio confirming that the new objectives will be playable across various difficulty levels, including those lower than CR10.
Introduction of Fresh Enemies and Quality-of-Life Enhancements
The Escalation of Freedom update will also introduce new enemies, including the Impaler, a fan-favorite from the original game. A new variant of the Charger will enter the Terminid ranks, adding an element of surprise as its location on the map remains hidden until players confront it. Furthermore, players will face the Terminid Alpha Commander, an enhanced version of the Brood Commander capable of summoning reinforcements. The Automatons will welcome a new foe as well—the Rocket Tank.
To combat instances of grief kicking within the game, Arrowhead Game Studios is implementing a change regarding team disbandment during sessions. If a player is removed, they will respawn in a new session as the host, retaining the loot acquired during their previous game for future extraction.
Additionally, the studio is committed to improving quality-of-life aspects of gameplay with the major update, including enhancements to the social menu for more streamlined multiplayer experiences. This significant update will be available for free on August 6 for both PS5 and PC.
