On Tuesday, Cognition Labs introduced Devin, its new artificial intelligence (AI) platform designed to function as a software engineer. First presented in March, Devin can perform intricate coding tasks, including writing code in various programming languages, creating and deploying websites and applications, and debugging existing code. The firm announced that Devin successfully completed practical engineering interviews at AI companies and has taken on actual projects on Upwork.
Cognition Labs Launches Devin AI Software Engineer
The company has now made Devin publicly accessible, approximately eight months after its initial introduction. However, Cognition Labs did not provide a reason for the delay. Individuals and engineering teams can now subscribe to the service for a monthly fee of $500 (around Rs. 42,400) via the company’s website.
The subscription package includes unlimited access to the AI model, along with integration capabilities for Slack, an integrated development environment (IDE) extension, and an application programming interface (APK). Subscribers will also benefit from an onboarding session to familiarize themselves with the platform. Additionally, the engineering team at Cognition Labs will offer support throughout the subscription period.
At its launch, Cognition Labs emphasized that Devin features a sandbox-style computing environment equipped with an integrated code editor and a browser for code writing and deployment.
The AI model is designed to learn and adapt to new technologies, construct and deploy applications across their entire lifecycle, independently identify and rectify bugs within codebases, manage errors and feature requests in open-source repositories, contribute to established production repositories, and even train and refine its own AI models.
Cognition Labs noted that Devin performs exceptionally well when it is tasked with projects that users already understand. Users can optimize Devin’s performance by training the model to test its outputs, limiting work sessions to three hours, breaking down larger projects into manageable parts, and providing comprehensive initial requirements.
Though Devin is available for engineering teams, limitations on usage may apply. Cognition Labs is also preparing an enterprise version of the AI model, with businesses encouraged to contact the sales team for detailed pricing and information.
