The critically acclaimed Mafia: Definitive Edition will be available on Xbox Game Pass starting August 13. The announcement was made by Microsoft on Wednesday, revealing that the remake of the 2002 classic will be accessible through Console, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions. This addition to the roster follows the inclusion of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on July 24, marking it as the first title from the franchise to be offered on the service.
Mafia: Definitive Edition Joins Game Pass
The addition was confirmed via the official Xbox Game Pass account on social media platform X. The remastered version of Mafia is a complete overhaul of the original game, featuring new assets, an expanded narrative, and enhanced gameplay elements including vehicles and soundtracks.
Originally published by 2K, Mafia: Definitive Edition was released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2020, and it was also a part of a trilogy bundle. The action-adventure title is set in the fictional city of Lost Heaven and follows the story of Tommy Angelo, who rises through the ranks of the criminal underworld, beginning his journey as a taxi driver.
Developer Hangar 13 is currently engaged in creating a new entry in the Mafia franchise. General manager Roman Hladík confirmed in 2022 that development had commenced on this all-new project, expressing excitement about the franchise’s return. “While it’s a few years away and we can’t share anything more right now, we’re really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories,” Hladík stated at that time.
Since then, there have been rumors regarding a potential announcement from 2K about the future of the Mafia series; however, there have been no concrete updates on a forthcoming title. The last main entry in the series, Mafia 3, was released in 2016.
Other Game Pass Additions
In recent developments, Game Pass is rumored to be adding Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy on August 8, although Microsoft has yet to verify this title’s availability for the service.
Additionally, Microsoft confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was coming to Game Pass earlier this month, making it the first game in the Call of Duty series to be featured on this subscription service as of July 24.
Moreover, Xbox Game Pass is poised to include Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 upon its launch on October 25.
