Meta’s Threads, a competitor to X (formerly known as Twitter), was introduced in July this year. Recently, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, announced the upcoming addition of an edit button and a Voice Threads feature to the app. Unlike X, which charges users for its edit functionality, Threads will offer these new features at no cost. Users can expect these updates to become available shortly, although an existing Instagram account is necessary to create a Threads account.
In a recent post on Threads, Zuckerberg confirmed that the Edit and Voice Threads features are beginning to reach all users. The edit functionality allows users to modify a Thread multiple times within a five-minute window. After this period, the ability to edit is disabled. This feature will be accessible on both the mobile application and the web version of Threads.
While the edit option on Threads is free, it comes with more limitations compared to X, particularly regarding its time constraints. Additionally, Threads does not display an edit history for posts; instead, only one edit icon is shown next to edited content.
The new Voice Threads feature permits users to share recorded voice messages as posts, akin to the voice note option available on WhatsApp. Importantly, these messages will be audible to all followers on Threads.
Furthermore, there have been indications that Threads may soon allow users to delete their accounts independently of their Instagram accounts. Currently, users must have an Instagram account to access Threads, although they can transfer their account details from Instagram to Threads. Users also have the option to customize their Threads profile details. Notably, those with verified Instagram accounts will retain their username on Threads along with the verification badge, enabling them to update their profile picture and bio as desired.
