Last month, Google announced its plans to roll out the Gemini software across a broader range of devices beyond just smartphones. Recent reports suggest that this expansion could significantly enhance the functionality of smartwatches. Specifically, One UI 8 is set to integrate Gemini Actions not only on the Samsung Galaxy Watch but also on other devices using the Wear OS platform. This update is expected to facilitate responses to general inquiries, summarize emails, and more, thereby extending the automation and task management features of Gemini to smartwatches.
Gemini on Samsung Galaxy Watch
In collaboration with AssembleDebug, Android Authority conducted an APK teardown of the Google Assistant app found within leaked One UI 8 APKs, uncovering the development of Gemini Actions. The investigation revealed code strings that reference multiple features expected to be available on Wear OS smartwatches.
According to the findings, Gemini could empower users to perform several tasks such as organizing calendar events, summarizing emails, and posing general questions to the AI chatbot. Users might also request the chatbot to reschedule meetings or check weather conditions, which could enhance the productivity capabilities of their smartwatches.
One noteworthy string of code indicates that users may have the option to integrate a new Gemini Action into a customizable tile on their smartwatch. Additionally, it appears that users will be able to silence the AI chatbot’s voice responses by simply tapping the screen.
The discovery of these code strings in the leaked One UI 8 APKs suggests that Gemini could soon be available on Samsung Galaxy Watches. Nonetheless, this feature may also be part of a broader rollout strategy across various smartwatches powered by Wear OS. There are indications that Samsung may bypass One UI 7 for its smartwatches, opting to launch directly with One UI 8.
Notably, during the earnings call for Q1 2025, Google confirmed plans to extend Gemini’s capabilities to additional products, including tablets, smartwatches, headphones, and Android-based infotainment systems. This expansion would position Gemini as the default assistant across these various platforms, according to the company’s statements.
